The Color of Shadows

You painted me

into your pretty picture

with no windows

and a door that locked

from the outside.

There was gray;

the color of shadows

upon naked walls.

There was noise,

never dimming

until my ears ached

for soft sounds, whispers

and the laughter light brings

to a pale face

and eyes that seek stars.
