Grasping at Feathers

We could have leaned
against that same old tree
trading stories with moonlight
as stars leaned in
to encompass this closeness
that only followers of light
can conceive.

You were beaming
like a beacon of faith,
hungry, yet satiable,
keeping time with beats
rapid as the tremble
of that read heart, teeming
with too many syllables
to swallow.
