Keeping My Sanity

Bag over my shoulder,
running barefoot
with last night’s lipstick

still pink and waiting;

I can sleep on the floor
a night or two,
eat on tv trays in the dark

if it means I can keep my sanity,

and open the blinds at 7:00 am
to the light
you thought you had stolen
so many moons ago

when you were green
seeing red

and I was just starting to see.

Day 3 of NaPoMo (a poem a day in April for National poetry month)
