Come

The wind whispered, “come;”

     with an intensity

          that could make knees tremble

and the tallest tree,

                        fall.

    I steadied myself,

       walked half way

  and turned back;

back into the darkness

       Oh, the fear,

   all those years,

before the light

     when darkness burned

      like an eclipse

through naked eyes.

My aching heart, tugged

    in

         every

direction,

chains binding my feet.

     A cardinal knocked,

day after day

             and I finally answered ,

     this barefoot, wandering soul

          with a simple wish for peace,

nourishment for a weary soul;

      just a few sacred syllables

          to share,

and lips to release

   these breaths

        I have been holding,

     and fly

~day one NaPoMo a poem a day in April ❤
