What Waves Wash In

When was the last time
you looked at the stars, lying down
from the back of a pickup truck,

picked wildflowers, plucking petals;
he loves me, he loves me not…

or just stared in his eyes
until you had to cry
or look away
because the emotion
was just too much
to endure?

Have you walked on the beach lately,
barefoot, built castles in the sand
watching waves wash away loving letters,
placed a message in a bottle
and tossed it away
so that lovers may find it
and discover

what makes two hearts sing
in chorus?
